Brian Warfield, Noel Nagel and Tommy Byrne make up the popular Irish group The Wolfe Tones. This is their story. In 1963, the neighborhood children from a quiet working class Dublin suburb named Inchicore, brothers Brian and Derek Warfield and there pal Noel Nagel started playing around the Fleadhs of Ireland. They would get together on the weekends playing Fleadhs cheoils or (music festivals) mainly as a past time more or less for drinking and some fun.

Brian and Noel had taken Tin whistle lessons in Dublin and Derek played mandolin which was his father’s instrument. In 1963 the four of them hitched across Ireland from Dublin to Kerry for a weekend at Fleadh creoil an annual gathering for Irish musicians where the drink and the music is non stop. The lads said they were only there for the beer but they managed to play a Celtic song or two.

They arrived in Kilarney very late and were looking for a place to bed down it was nearly 2 am and because they had a few drinks in them, they just started to play. It was in late August and a crowd started to assemble around them as they sang and played some good Ireland music. At some point an American fellow apprroached them and requested a Irish Rebel tune from them, they knew the song and played it for him. Afterwards the man said that he was making a documentary about Ireland and asked them to come the next day so he could include them for a spot in the film
